The Brief
To restore an important historic colonial house, removing all subsequent (negative) modernizations.
Approach
Our approach was to initially focus on clearing the accumulated debris and growth of the garden, as well as to arrest any further potential damage to the buildings from weather and infestations. We also removed any traces of more recent construction that were not sympathetic with the original structure and design.
Challenges
We faced several design, construction, and project management challenges along the way. Some particularly salient ones included:
Demolition and removel of the extensive non-historic alterations made to the property since its original construction, which included partition walls inside and outside of the property
Repairing leaks across the roofs
Re-establishing the zinc covered roof on the patio
Clearing the garden of many, many years of unrestrained growth
Mounting and repairing neighboring garden walls
Preserving original floors and ceilings
Before and After Shots
While no means exhaustive, these images should give a sense of the depth of renovation involved...
