This property has some important, striking natural features, including three enormous cenotes, two smaller ones, and a cave with thousand year old stalactites! It is very fertile land, the area is known for both its citrus and its honey--said by some to be the best honey in the world. In fact, the indigenous honey bee, melliponia, is the world's only stingless honey bee, and produces a highly concentrated honey, that is particularly rich in anti-oxidants.

The buildings that are there could easily be renovated and incorporated into a larger project, and there are no restrictios whatsoever on the use of the property or on the conversion of the buildings. There is an existing wind-powered water pump, irrigation tanks, bebederos, and corrals for horses or whatever else you might wish to keep.

The terrain is slightly undulating, so it has some topographical interest. The property would make an excellent boutique hotel with a nature-oriented theme, and would also be suited for other agricultural uses...other people in the area successfully grow (on a commercial scale) elephant grass (for ethanol), citrus, mangoes and avocados, other indigenous fruits, bamboo...

The hacienda is located about 7 km away from the town of Tekit, which is on the popular tourist route known as the Convent Route. Nearby you will find the important Mayan sites of Mayapan, Acanceh, and others. Ticul, famous for its pottery and food, is also close to hand. Uxmal, perhaps one of the most impressive Mayan sites of all, is also close. Access from the Merida-Cancun highway is excellent, and the highway connecting Merida to the Costa Maya via Chetumal passes nearby...all in all an excellent location.

The hacienda's origins as a sisal plantation (henequen) are evident in the many truck (the narrow gauge rail lines) beds that are evident on the property (they are like stone platforms, all with laid stone). This was an area of major production until the 1940's.
