About Us
Balam develops property on its own account.  Operating in select markets, we focus on small-scale, high-end tourist-oriented real estate development.  We also conduct feasibility studies on projects, conduct site investigations, etc, for the development of prime tourism real estate.

We are global in our outlook, yet choose to focus very deeply on individual markets that we feel represent unique development value.  This deep knowledge in local real estate markets positions us well to spot emerging opportunities and provides us a base to ensure that we can make a success of them, whether for ourselves or for our clients.

We believe in working in the local vernacular, finding styles and materials that are appropriate to the surroundings.  We select our markets carefully for our clients, and we are invest our own capital in the same markets.

Current Markets
Balam is today focussed on three key markets, Buenos Aires, Argentina; Merida, Mexico; and Marrakech, Morocco.  Our focus on these three areas is the result of several years of in-depth analysis of various real estate markets around the world.  We have found that these areas possess the characteristics that we seek in an investment.  Over time, we will  add selective markets as new opportunities emerge, and as the attractions of given markets fade.  In particular, we see a number of attractive real estate development opportunities on the Costa Maya, Riviera Maya, and Gulf Coast of Mexico's Yucatan peninsula.

What we look for
There are a few base characteristics that we look for before committing to invest in a market:
Strong basic property law, good legal structures, and a history of respect for property rights
Low-levels of crime
Favourable, government-supported investment regime
Strong and growing underlying tourism growth
Strong cultural interest and strong artistic traditions: two pillars for sustained tourism growth
An attractive real estate market, characterised by abundant supply, low entry costs, and an ability to transact smoothly
Easy entry and exit of funds, good company law, and a solid banking system

About Us
Balam is incorporated as a real estate developer in Morocco (Immobilier Balam du Maroc S.A.R.L.), in Mexico (Inmobiliaria Balam de Yucatan, S.A. de C.V.), and in Argentina (Inmobiliaria Balam de Argentina, S.A.).  A sister company based in London is specialised on corporate strategic advisory services, and works with clients on a bespoke basis all over the world, Bourbon & Pierce.  A recent project has included the development of a feasibility study and business plan for a $1.2 billion theme park, conference, hotel, and entertainment venue outside of London,  in the UK (The NIRAH Project).  Other studies have included hotel and tourism developments in markets as diverse as Argentina, Libya, Lebanon, India, Morocco, and others.

Sister company Ryad Arena is managing the hotel Dar Les Cigognes in Marrakech, Morocco and provides hospitality and leisure consultancy services to third parties internationally.

Investment Philosophy
Balam Properties take a long view.  We participate in markets with long-term development potential.  Within those markets, we seek to achieve a balance of risk between types of developments, required turnaround, investment outlays, etc.  We do this to both maximise our return and to minimise our risk.

Real estate development can be an attractive investment class, not without its certain risks.  Balam properties has developed its own method and model for evaluating investment opportunities in real estate markets around the world.  For the past five years, we have been investigating individual markets in conjunction with modelling their relative appeal.

Through this process, out of twenty markets considered specifically for their risk/reward profile, and long-term potential for development, we have chosen the markets we are working in.
